About Marion

Crafted with
experience

Marion has been sewing since childhood, first making clothes for her dolls while growing up in a family deeply connected to the craft. With a mother who was a dressmaker, and both her grandmother and uncle working as tailors, sewing became more than a skill. It became a lifelong tradition she was proud to carry forward.

At just 15 years old, Marion began her apprenticeship at Ninon Modes under renowned Wellington designer Ashley Fogel, where she developed the foundations of her craft through traditional tailoring and garment construction. She later expanded her experience working as a sample machinist for Daniel Hechter before continuing her journey alongside respected designers Rowland Wimmers and Uta Griffin. Each role added to the depth, precision, and appreciation for quality workmanship that still defines her approach today.

When family life changed with the arrival of her twins and two stepsons, Marion chose to continue sewing from home while raising her family, never stepping away from the trade she loved. During this time, she contracted to Kanikani Kids, creating Kapa Haka costumes for schools throughout New Zealand, further refining her ability to balance craftsmanship, durability, and thoughtful detail.

Marion then spent almost 13 years with Juli Hunter, including 10 years as Workroom Manager, where she became known for her careful finishing, technical skill, and deep understanding of garment construction. Over decades in the industry, she built a reputation for creating beautifully finished pieces designed to fit, flatter, and last.

After many years of experience, learning, and encouragement from family, Marion and her husband decided it was time for her to step out on her own and bring everything she had learned into a business of her own. Simply Sewing was created as a reflection of that journey, a workroom built on experience, precision, and a genuine love for the craft of sewing.

Marion

Client Words

Trusted for detail

Kind words from clients who trust Marion with detailed tailoring, bridal alterations, repairs, and finishing.

Being a size 6/8 has its drawbacks because most of my apparel purchases need altering to fit a small size. Marion would be the most trustworthy and qualified dressmaker I would consider, fussy as I am. I know her workmanship. It will be perfect, the items fit just right and her care in measurements and details are faultless.

When our 2.8-metre taffeta lounge curtains needed renovating, Marion painstakingly managed the huge task flawlessly.

I will follow her future endeavours with interest and wish her well.
